YOUR ENDOCRINE SHOULD NOT PUT YOU ON A DIET, WE NEED NUTRITIONISTS IN PUBLIC HEALTH

Do you think that to “diet” it is better to choose an Endocrinologist than a Dietitian-Nutritionist??

The general lack of knowledge of what a Dietician-Nutritionist is means that intruders can roam freely in all possible areas., from private consultation, disclosing in the media even what hurts me personally the most, public health, in which health professionals are forced to give poor dietary advice due to lack of time and specific training.

And it is both in public health and in the private sphere where endocrine doctors have assumed the power to perform functions for which they are only trained in one subject of the career, throwing away our three years of training.. Taking advantage of misinformation about the true image of the Dietitian-Nutritionist.

An endocrine doctor is a health professional who, as its name indicates, specializes in the treatment of conditions related to the endocrine system, which is made up of all the glands of the body and plays a vital role in the proper functioning of our vital processes and organs.. Basically hormonal processes.

While a Dietitian-Nutritionist is a health professional trained at the university and specialized in nutrition., nutrition and dietetics. Obviously, if you have diabetes, you will have to go see an endocrinologist to control your blood sugar and insulin level. But to follow a diet associated with your specific pathology (not just diabetes), to your life stage, a state of malnutrition or obesity, or just learn to eat well, The best trained professional will be the Dietitian-Nutritionist.

The situation of our profession in Spain is unique, since this university career has officially recognized its status as a health profession in the Health Professions Regulation Law of the year 2003. However in practice, We are the only European country that does not include nutritionists in public health.

For this reason (and now I do a little self-promotion), the next 10 May in Madrid, from the organization Dietetics Without Sponsors, of which I am a member, A demonstration has been organized in front of the Ministry of Health to fight for our inclusion in the health system.

And why are we so necessary?

Why 3/4 Parts of deaths in developed countries are due to diseases directly related to lifestyle, food being a basic pillar.
Because in common pathologies such as diabetes, hypertension or cardiovascular accidents, Feeding is necessary before medication.
Because we have an alarming and increasing rate of childhood obesity.
Because he 30-50% of hospitalized patients become malnourished, prolonging recovery and we could avoid it.
Because for every euro invested in dietary advice, you save more than €50 in subsequent treatments..

There is still a lot of time for us to be present in the health system, but meanwhile, We try to unite voices so that the general population does not have doubts about who can care for them in terms of food and with appropriate qualifications.. Do you doubt when you go to the dentist whether it will be a qualified professional?? The way we eat has memory in our body and it is important to be responsible when choosing who you put your health in the hands of..

If you read this, Inform the people around you about the role of this profession.. Everyone in our small circle can influence to end so many experts (not just endocrine) that with pseudoscience and taking advantage of misinformation and legal loopholes fill their pockets at the expense of our health.
